CERT Emergency Communicator’s Class
Saturday, April 8, 2017 10am-1pm Sugar City, Idaho
All CERT members or prospective members are invited.
Please attend even if radio is your second language.
 
Location:
240 Sugar Ave, Sugar City.  
Madison Co. Sheriff, Search and Rescue Building
If you take the Sugar City Exit off Hwy 20 going north or south, drive east toward Sugar and it will be the first left (turning north before the railroad tracks).  (Map is attached)
 
Topics to be covered:
  • Role of CERT in Emergency Communications (i.e. Teams, Incident Commander, Emergency Operations Center)
  • Communication Plans (documenting roles and establishing protocols)
  • Communication Modes (runners, landline telephones, cell phones, two-way radios, computer, satellite phones, etc.)
  • Basic Radio Anatomy (off-on switch, volume control, PPT-push to talk, antenna, speaker, microphone, battery, channel selector, channel monitor, headset input jack, privacy line selector, lock button, transmit call tone selection, monitor button, ring tone selector, power setting selector, etc.)
  • Communications Operations (table top exercise, tactical call signs, phonetic alphabet and field exercise)

To take the CERT basic course PRINT AND SIGN the following 2 documents in additional to registering above. Turn the documents in to the instructor on the first class date.

NEWS and INFORMATION

All CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteer members and HAM RADIO OPERATORS are invited to participate in a MOCK DISASTER DRILL/TRAINING - ; this will be a live disaster simulation and extremely important for CERT volunteers to refresh on all the skills they have previously learned.
 
 - Check-in 8:00am to 8:30am. Victim volunteers should arrive by 8:15am.
 - Location: Madison Education Center on Main St. in Rexburg (East of Broulims)

I hope many of you can come; please bring your friends to be victim actors.  Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Classes will be held in Madison County starting Sept 1 and in Bonneville County starting Sept 14.  More information regarding registering and the location will be coming closer to the start dates.

MOCK DISASTER DRILL/TRAINING - Saturday, November 12, 2016; this will be a live disaster simulation and extremely important for CERT volunteers to refresh on all the skills they have previously learned.
Check-in 8:00am to 8:30am. Disaster drill starts at 9am and goes until about noon including a post event debriefing and review. Victim volunteers should arrive between 7:30-8:00am.
Location: Madison Education Center on Main St. in Rexburg (the old Jr. High School). Check in at the gyms doors.

All CERT are welcome to come and be responders as well to practice and refresh skills. PLEASE RSVP via email to cert@easternidahocert.org or join this event.

PAST ACTIVITY
July 15, 2014 - Rexburg -- Heavy thunderstorms resulted in flooding across Madison County Tuesday evening. Many businesses had water enter their buildings.  There was also an overflown canal which resulted in flooded home basements.

We had a great regional exercise in Rexburg on June 6-7, 2014.  CERT and many other emergency personnel participated. The public attended as well to learn about the equipment and response capabilities in Eastern Idaho.
